**Job Title**
IT Integration Engineer
**Role Summary**
Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of secure, reliable, standards‑based integration between clinical and administrative systems. Manage enterprise integration engines (Mirth Connect, Intersystems Health Connect), develop point‑to‑point interfaces, support FHIR migration, and ensure high availability, performance, and compliance with healthcare interoperability standards.
**Expectations**
- Deliver and maintain integration solutions that enable accurate, consistent data flow across the organization’s hospitals and clinics.
- Operate in a high‑availability environment, applying patches, upgrades, and performance tuning to keep systems online and secure.
- Transition legacy interfaces to FHIR where required and support ongoing clinical data exchange.
- Collaborate with internal clinical teams, suppliers, and external providers to resolve defects and enhance integration performance.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. **Integration Engine Support & Maintenance**
- Monitor, support, install, configure, and upgrade Mirth Connect and Health Connect.
- Apply changes and enhancements to maintain high availability, performance, security, and compliance.
2. **Interface Development**
- Design, build, and maintain interfaces using HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, SQL/PLSQL, ODBC, XML/XSLT, Windows batch, Web Services, Java, TCL, .NET, and DICOM.
- Lead development of new FHIR‑based interfaces and upgrade existing ones.
3. **Interface Support & Troubleshooting**
- Provide day‑to‑day support for engine‑based and point‑to‑point integrations.
- Monitor performance, investigate issues, and coordinate fixes with vendors and internal teams.
4. **Database Support**
- Assist with integration‑related database administration tasks, including schema understanding, performance tuning, and backup management.
- Liaise with external device integration partners to maintain data flows.
5. **Documentation & Knowledge Management**
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation for data flows, interface specifications, and troubleshooting procedures.
**Required Skills**
- Extensive knowledge of HL7 v2.x, HL7 v3, and FHIR standards.
- Proven experience with Mirth Connect and Intersystems Health Connect in an enterprise setting.
- Strong programming and scripting skills: SQL/PLSQL, ODBC, XML/XSLT, Windows batch, Java, TCL, .NET; familiarity with DICOM.
- Database administration fundamentals and experience with integration‑related database tasks.
- Ability to monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex integration issues, and implement performance improvements.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with clinical, technical, and vendor teams.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Formal certification in HL7, FHIR, or other interoperability standards is desirable but not mandatory.
- NHS Trust experience and familiarity with NHS data standards is desirable.
